Why can't I validate an Objective?

Only a Line Manager can validate an objective. Validation will not appear until the objective is Complete and Approved.
Once an individual has marked an objective as complete, managers can validate the achieved status.
If Validation doesn't appear on the right-hand actions panel:

the objective may need to be approved

or is still awaiting completion
Check the Objective Status to see what's missing. In the example below the 'Completion status' shows that objective is incomplete and therefore the option to Validate is not visible in the Actions panel:
